The Breast Cancer Research Program is a research and innovation unit positioned within the Breast Unit at the Champalimaud Foundation.
The BCRP includes approximately 50 staff members spanning from scientists, engineers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. The pathway for success of the BCRP relies strongly on the close interactions between scientific research/innovation and clinical applications – in a true fusion research approach.
The BCRP was founded in October 2024 thanks to the generous donation from the SIMOLDES Group. This funding helped kick-off our program and will support the program over the next five years. This critical support allows the program to focus on growth, innovation and long-term sustainability, while maintaining an active pursuit of additional funding through fundraising, as well as national and international grants.
Mission
Our mission is to generate scientific knowledge and innovation that can improve the lives of breast cancer patients by:
a)Enhancing early detection, diagnosis, and treatment through advanced imaging techniques b) Understanding cancer-related cognitive impairment c) Improving clinical decision-making with the support of artificial intelligence d) Advancing patient-centered breast surgery using digital health technology e) Improving clinical/ survivorship outcomes through evidence-based physical activity f) Developing personalized treatment strategies that are informed by translational research

Vision
Our vision is that every breast cancer patient will receive individualized and more precise cancer treatments, that incorporate evidence-based pharma and non-pharmacological strategies.
We aim to be a leading example of a multidisciplinary breast cancer clinical practice and research hub with expertise across areas as oncology, engineering, data science, and behavioral sciences, accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into real-world healthcare solutions in oncology.
Support
The BCRP activities are supported by the financial contributions from the SIMOLDES Group (Oliveira de Azeméis, Portugal).
