Pedro Gouveia, MD, PhD
Pedro Gouveia, MD, PhD, is a breast cancer surgeon and medical innovator at the Champalimaud Foundation since 2013. He earned his medical degree from NOVA Medical School in 2004 and completed a fellowship in oncoplastic breast surgery at the Paris Breast Center. In 2021, he obtained his PhD from the University of Lisbon, focusing on 3D digital breast cancer surgery using augmented reality.
Dr. Gouveia has pioneered the use of mixed reality (e.g., Microsoft HoloLens) in breast cancer surgeries and led the first live remote surgical supervision using 5G technology. He coordinates the Oncoplastic Breast Consortium in Portugal and is a member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology’s Education and Training Committee.
