Maria-João Cardoso, MD, PhD
Maria-João Cardoso, MD, PhD is a Breast Surgeon at the Champalimaud Foundation Breast Unit, in Lisbon Portugal and Associate Professor of the University of Lisbon Faculty of Medicine. She has been appointed Director of the Champalimaud Breast Cancer Research Program in January 2025. Her PhD thesis and main research interests are on the aesthetic outcomes of breast cancer surgery using AI and its impact in Patients Quality of Life. This topic has been a collaborative research with INESC – TEC for more than 10 years.
She is the co-developer of the BCCT.core software for objective analysis of the cosmetic outcome of Breast Cancer locoregional treatment. She is the International Coordinator of the CINDERELLA Horizon 2021 project. Since 2011 she is the president of a Support Centre for Breast Cancer Patients, Mama Help, cooperating actively in European advocacy training like EUROPA DONNA. She is actively collaborating with EUSOMA and she is a member of the board of the Portuguese Society of Senology and of the Faculty of ESO and ESMO.
