Joana Caleiro
Joana Caleiro, is a Master’s student in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and has been developing her master thesis at the Champalimaud Foundation since 2024. Her thesis focuses on exploring visualization techniques in augmented reality to enhance depth perception during breast cancer surgeries.
The research aims to improve surgeons’ spatial understanding by evaluating and developing advanced depth cues and interactive 3D overlays that support accurate surgical navigation. By investigating how different visualization methods affect depth accuracy, her work seeks to contribute to safer and more precise surgical interventions.
