BCRP Duarte Gaspar, BSc
Duarte Gaspar is a Master’s student in Biomedical Engineering at the Nova School of Science and Technology. His collaboration with Champalimaud Foundation’s Digital Surgery Lab started in mid 2026 during his summer internship, where he adapted and implemented a non-rigid registration algorithm for pose transformation in the breast, which has the goal to predict tumor displacement between the prone and supine positions.
After the internship he began working on his Master's thesis which is focused on developing and implementing a benchmark for evaluating breast biomechanical models in pose transformation, specifically prone to supine. This project aims to build objective and standardized assessments of the models' ability to predict tissue deformation leading to developments with significant clinical impact.
