Andrea De Censi, MD
Andrea De Censi, MD, is Director of the Breast Department at the Champalimaud Foundation and an internationally recognized medical oncologist with a career dedicated to cancer prevention, chemoprevention and minimally toxic therapeutic strategies, with a lifelong focus on breast cancer. He received his MD from the University of Pavia and specialized in Medical Oncology at the University of Genoa. He has also served as Honorary Professor at Queen Mary University of London / Wolfson Institute of Population Health and as Scientific Advisor in Cancer Prevention and Genetics at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan.
Prof. De Censi’s research has contributed to the development of low-dose endocrine prevention strategies, including the “BabyTAM” low-dose tamoxifen program, alternative exemestane dosing schedules, metabolic modulation approaches with metformin and fasting, and biomarker-driven window-of-opportunity trials. He has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and has held major international leadership roles in cancer prevention, including ASCO, ESMO and the WHO/IARC European Code Against Cancer initiative. He has also led more than 50 academic, not-for-profit phase II/III clinical trials involving over 15,000 participants, supported by agencies including NIH/NCI, AIRC, BCRF and Susan G. Komen.
