Yasna Forghani, MSc, is a PhD student at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon, and has been at the Champalimaud Foundation since 2023. With a background in biomedical engineering, her research focuses on the use of artificial intelligence to improve medical imaging analysis. Her PhD research aims to develop deep learning methods for accurately delineating breast cancer in MR images, improving tumor localization and margin assessment.
The objective is to make these processes faster, more reliable, and easier to apply in real clinical settings—particularly during surgery. This work is part of a broader initiative to enhance surgical planning and intraoperative guidance using AI-powered tools and augmented reality, while reducing the burden on healthcare professionals.
